Melanocortin Receptor Agonist
Scientific Profile
Melanotan II is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analog of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-NH2). In vitro studies demonstrate high affinity binding to melanocortin receptors MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R. Animal research indicates potent melanogenic activity through MC1R activation in melanocytes.
The cyclic structure and amino acid substitutions confer enhanced metabolic stability compared to native MSH peptides. The peptide demonstrates prolonged receptor activation due to resistance to enzymatic degradation.
