PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a cyclic heptapeptide analog of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-NH2). In vitro studies demonstrate selective activation of melanocortin receptors MC1R and MC4R. Animal research indicates effects on sexual behavior through hypothalamic pathways.
